15-year-old boy arrested for bringing a gun to school in Elyria

ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) – A teenager was arrested by Elyria police after staff were called to Black River Career Preparatory School on Wednesday morning to report a disturbance involving a student who possibly had a gun on school property.

When police teams arrived at the scene, they detained the 15-year-old suspect.

According to a press release from police, school staff implemented lockdown measures to ensure the safety of all students and faculty.

Police teams arrived at the scene and revealed information suggesting that the suspect brought a gun to school grounds after a fight between a group of students. Officers said the firearm was not brought into the school building but was found to be in a nearby wooded area.

Police said the teenager admitted to owning the firearm and planned to sell it outside school hours.

The teen now faces multiple felony charges related to weapons offenses and has been transferred to a juvenile detention facility.
