WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: Wichita police say a 69-year-old man died from injuries he suffered when his vehicle crashed outside a business near Douglas and Hillside.

Police said the man became trapped between the door of his van and the body of the vehicle as he tried to flee the scene of what he believed was an attempted theft.

“They think he was trying to steal a home’s air filter and in the process tried to escape in his car. A supervising officer with the Wichita Police Department said he got stuck and his car hit him.”

An injury crash in East Wichita sent one person to the hospital in extremely critical condition. The accident, reported around 10:20 a.m., occurred near Douglas and Hillside.
