This story has been updated to include new information

Salem Police say all lanes of Highway 22 are open about 2 miles east of the intersection with Interstate 5 following a fatal single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning.

The eastbound lane of the highway was closed for three hours after a male driver left the road and crashed into milepost 4 just before 8am.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Salem Police Traffic Team, the vehicle went through a landscaped area onto the eastbound on-ramp onto Highway 22E and struck a tree.

Police will not release the identity of the driver without notifying his relatives.

Gaffin Road and the eastbound ramp were also closed.

Salem Police responded to 20 fatal crashes in 2024.
