The man suspected of killing missing estate agent Suzy Lamplugh has died in prison.

John Cannan, 70, was jailed for kidnapping and murdering newlywed Shirley Banks from Bristol in 1989.

He was later linked to the murder of 25-year-old Miss Lamplugh from London, who disappeared in 1986. His body was never found.

The Prison Service confirmed his death and added: “As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”

Miss Lamplugh, who worked as an estate agent, disappeared after going to meet a client in Fulham on July 28, 1986. He was known only as “Mr. Kipper” and was never traced.

According to reports, Cannan was nicknamed Kipper during a previous prison sentence.

He also looked like a man he had been seen talking to on the day Miss Lamplugh disappeared; He was thought to be the mysterious Mr. Kipper.

In 2018, a search was carried out in the backyard of a house in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, belonging to the mother of prime suspect John Cannan.
