3 Key Jaguars Players to Watch After the NFL Trade Deadline

The Jacksonville Jaguars are just 2-7 on the season, so it’s time to start assessing the future.

Many were wondering if the Jaguars would make any moves before the NFL trade deadline, and while Jacksonville traded linebacker Roy Robertson-Harris and offensive lineman Cam Robinson late last month, they were much less active on Tuesday.

Jacksonville decided stand up This was a rather odd decision considering the team certainly had some pieces at the trade deadline. should have moved.

Regardless, the deadline has now come and gone, so the Jags’ roster is essentially set the rest of the way.

Here are three Jaguars players to watch for the rest of the season.

Brenton Strange has had a strange season. He caught five passes for 59 yards two weeks ago but wasn’t targeted once in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

I think that’s what to expect from a young tight end currently ranked second on the depth chart, but that could change soon.

Jaguars tight end Evan Engram has just one year left on his contract and is now 30 years old. He was also pretty weak in 2024, recording just 25 catches for 223 yards and a score in five games.

With Jacksonville heading towards a near-rebuild soon, Strange could see his role increased as the Jags try to see what the second-year pass catcher has in store.

Look for the Jaguars to increase his playing time as we move deeper into the season.

Jacksonville selected Parker Washington in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and while the Jags were led by Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. on the depth chart, Washington’s role was understandably limited early in the year.

However, recent injuries to the Jaguars’ receiving corps spurred Washington into action, and he had six total receptions for 87 yards in the last two games. He was targeted 10 times in these two contests.

Washington was relatively impressive at Penn State, and while he doesn’t have any traits that jump off the page, he’s a solid all-around receiver who could play a role in Jacksonville’s aerial attack going forward.

Kirk is out this season, so there could be more touches coming to Washington.

One of the Jaguars’ most intriguing offseason acquisitions was cornerback Jarrian Jones, whom the team selected in the third round of the draft.

Jones has played in all nine games this season, showing versatility as a tailback in the slot. He has recorded 16 tackles and three passes defensed so far and has a very impressive 71.6 grade at Pro Football Focus. That’s good for 40 out of 205 qualified corners.

The 23-year-old has plenty of cornerbacks to contend with in Jacksonville, but the Jags could aim to trade Ronald Darby in the offseason, which could open up more playing time for Jones.

We’ll see if Jones continues to impress over the last few months.
