16-year-old student seriously injured after being hit by a taxi was taken to hospital

A teenage boy is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a taxi in South Lanarkshire.

The collision happened on Rutherglen’s High Street at around 4.10pm on Tuesday, November 5, and involved a black Mercedes Vito taxi and the 16-year-old pedestrian.

The seriously injured person was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 58-year-old man was arrested in connection with a traffic offense and has been released pending further investigation.

The road was closed for approximately 4 hours so that an investigation could be carried out at the scene.

Sergeant Gemma Blackadder, of Motherwell Road Police, said: “Our investigations into this incident are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with information that could help to get in touch.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who has footage from the area and let us know.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101Quoted from reference 2428 dated 5 November 2024.”
