Oakdale elects new mayor

ALLEN PARISH, La. (KPLC) – Allen Parish voters elected a new Oakdale mayor and three Oakdale council members in Tuesday’s primary election.

They also voted for a bond proposal for the fire department.

The results have been completed but have not been officially announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Town of Oakdale has elected David Vidrine as its new mayor.

  • Paul Abrusley (D) – 176 votes (11%)
  • Gwen Alsbury (D) – 376 votes (24%)
  • David Vidrine (No party) – 1,009 votes (65%)

Vidrine, an attorney who sits on the Oakdale Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, said: plans to get a grant to help the town develop.

Incumbent Mayor Gene Paul did not run for re-election.

Oakdale City Council

Council member at large

George Ashy II and Adam Gordon will advance to a runoff to decide who will be Oakdale’s council member at-large.

Neither candidate received enough votes to win outright.

  • George Ashy II (R) – 682 votes (45%) – incumbent – FLOW
  • Adam Leo Gordon (R) – 507 votes (34%) – FLOW
  • Cleopatra Antoine Pete (D) – 319 votes (21%)

Second District council member

Fredrick “Pos” Douglas was elected to the Oakdale City Council representing the Second District.

  • Robert “Jamie” Banks (R) – 170 votes (43%) – incumbent
  • Fredrick “Pos” Douglas (R) – 224 votes (57%)

Third District council member

Dina Eaves and Ervin Willis will advance to a runoff to decide who will represent the Third District on the Oakdale City Council.

Neither candidate received enough votes to win outright.

  • Dina Eaves (R) – 148 votes (41%) – FLOW
  • Colten David Ingo (R) – 101 votes (28%)
  • Ervin Willis (R) – 114 votes (31%) – FLOW

Fire Protection Zone Three ties

Allen Parish voters passed a bond proposal for Fire Protection District Three. $1 million bond will be funded new fire trucks. The bond passed by 566 votes to 389.

It is estimated that taxes will be applied to approximately 16 mills in the first year of export.

Referendum text: Shall Fire Protection District No. 3 of Allen Parish, State of Louisiana (“District”) borrow money and issue bonds in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 in one or more series not to exceed 15 years from the date? With interest rates not exceeding 7% per annum, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing and improving buildings, machinery and equipment to be used in fire protection of publicly owned buildings, machinery and equipment in the district; Which bonds shall be general obligations of the District and shall be governed by Article VI of the 1974 Louisiana State Constitution. It will be paid from the value-based taxes to be levied and collected as provided by Article 33 and the additional legal authority. Will the estimated 16 mills be taxed in the first year they are issued to pay for the District Bonds in question?
