2 poll workers drowned in flood waters on their way to the election area

WRIGHT COUNTY, Mo. (KY3/Gray News) – Two election workers in Missouri drowned on their way to a polling place due to flash flooding on Tuesday.

according to Missouri State Highway PatrolAround 4 a.m., multiple cars were swept away on State Route H near Beaver Creek in Wright County.

Emergency crews began rescuing people. The two people in the car managed to swim to safety.

A couple in the other car, a 70-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman from Wright County, were found dead outside their vehicle around 8:45 a.m.

Authorities used a drone to locate the deceased couple, according to Wright County Sheriff Sonny Byerly.

According to Sheriff Byerly, the two were on their way to work at the polling place. The Wright County Clerk’s Office confirmed the two individuals were poll workers.

The sheriff also said there were six swift water rescues in the area last night.
