Man allegedly punched election judge in the face after jumping in front of voting line, police say

ORLAND PARK, Illinois (Gray News) – A man in Illinois was arrested for allegedly attacking an election judge while waiting in line to vote.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, police called the Orland Park County Office for a report of a man causing a disturbance while voting.

Police said 24-year-old Daniel Schmidt entered the building and passed several voters waiting in line to enter the voting area. according to a press release.

An election judge stationed at the entrance told Schmidt to go to the back of the line and wait his turn, but Schmidt allegedly refused.

At this point, another election judge was called to assist and Schmidt was instructed to move to the back of the line again.

Police said Schmidt tried to pass the judge but was stopped. He then started swearing and punched the judge, knocking off his glasses.

At this point, several other customers intervened and restrained Schmidt until officers arrived.

It was claimed that Schmidt also resisted while he was being arrested.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated battery on a victim 60 years of age or older.
