West Virginia buys 2026 football game at East Carolina

The West Virginia Mountaineers are buying their 2026 football game against the East Carolina Pirates. HoistTheColours on Tuesday.

West Virginia is scheduled to face East Carolina on September 19, 2026, at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, NC. According to the report, the Mountaineers will pay the Pirates a $300,000 cancellation fee, the amount specified in the contract.

West Virginia and East Carolina first agreed to a six-game football series in 2008. After a change a few years later, the series resumed in Morgantown, W.Va. in 2017. and Greenville, NC, with contests scheduled for two games. A second change was later adopted and the 2020 game was moved to the 2026 season.

In the first contest in 2017, West Virginia beat East Carolina 56-20 in Morgantown and now leads the overall series 19-3.

West Virginia is currently scheduled to open 2026 season at home against the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, the Mountaineers I’m trying to get out of this seriesIt also includes a game in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to open the 2027 season.

The only other non-conference opponent scheduled for West Virginia in 2026 is a home game against FCS UT Martin on September 12.

As for East Carolina, the Pirates now have an opening in their non-conference schedule. 2026. ECU is scheduled to open the season with back-to-back home games against North Carolina Central on Sept. 5 and Appalachian State on Sept. 12. Two weeks later on September 26, the Pirates are scheduled to visit Old Dominion.
