Important dates are:

  • Deadline for voter registration: 7 October
  • Deadline to request a mail-in ballot: 24 October 17:00
  • Dates when Florida early voting is required: 26 October – 2 November
    • Each county Supervisor of Elections may choose to offer more days of early voting, up to five days in advance or one day longer.
  • Election Day: 5 November

Every Florida county will have a mandatory eight-day early voting period before the election, but most counties, including Lee County, are opting to start earlier and some will allow early voting the Sunday before the election. Many early voting sites will open earlier and/or later for the primary election than they do during early voting.

When is the 2024 Florida General Election?

General elections in Florida will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

What is early voting?

Every Election Day, long lines form at the polls, especially in areas where there are not enough polling places; Voters sometimes wait hours to vote, and some people can’t get to the polls on Tuesday.

To help alleviate this, early voting was established, allowing people to vote early at a more convenient time, with the same equipment used on Election Day.

When does early voting start and end in Lee County?

Any election involving a state or federal race must provide early voting, which must continue from at least the 10th day before the election until the 3rd day before the election. Each county Supervisor of Elections may choose to offer more days of early voting, up to five days in advance or one day longer.

Do I need ID to vote early in Florida?

You must have photo identification to vote at an early voting location. Acceptable IDs include:

  • Florida Driver’s License
  • Florida ID Card (issued by DHSMV)
  • US Passport
  • Debit or Credit Card
  • Military ID
  • Student ID
  • Retirement Center ID
  • Neighborhood Association ID
  • Public Assistance ID
  • Veteran Health ID (issued by the US Department of Veterans Affairs)
  • Concealed Weapon Permit (issued pursuant to FS 790.06)
  • An employee identification card issued by any branch, agency, agency, or agency of the Federal Government, state, county, or municipality.

If your photo ID does not include your signature, you will be asked to provide another form of identification that bears your signature.

If I forget or don’t have my ID, can I still vote in Florida?

If you don’t have ID with you when you vote, you will still be allowed to vote, but you will have to cast a provisional ballot that will then be evaluated by a voting board to make sure you are eligible.

How do I register to vote in Florida?

ONLINE: Go Register at VoteFlorida.gov to send voter registration application. You will need:

  • Your most current and valid Florida driver’s license (Florida DL) or Florida ID card
  • Last four digits of your social security number

If you do not have the required information, you can use the online system to pre-fill out an online voter registration application form that you can print. Sign it and mail or drop it off at your county Supervisor of Elections office.

  • Any office that issues Florida DLs or Florida ID cards
  • Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ online system for renewing a Florida DL or Florida ID
  • Any voter registration agency, such as a public assistance office
  • Any voter registration effort conducted by an organization that meets Florida’s updated standards
  • Any public library
