Michael Beschloss, liberal presidential historian and frequent guest on MSNBC, made a dire prediction that former President Trump will secure re-election this week.

He appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday morning. commentator He said if America had chosen Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris, it would have chosen dictatorship over democracy.

“Historians in the future will look back on this day and say it was the day America made a choice between freedom and democracy on the one hand, and authoritarianism and dictatorship on the other,” Beschloss said. he said.

Beschloss on MSNBC

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss, who recently appeared on MSNBC, said that if America elects Trump on Election Day, it would be choosing a dictatorship.

“Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist prompted Beschloss’ assessment, asking how he and other historians view this year’s Election Day as a “volatile day” in American history.

“This feels like a turning point in many ways, which means maybe by tomorrow morning we’ll be going one of two different ways,” Geist said, inviting commentators to weigh in.

Beschloss agreed with this view and then implied that if Trump takes office, future historians will not be able to describe November 5, 2024 as a “volatile day” because it would outlaw historical records from his time in office.

“If in the future historians are allowed to write books, and if this question is left open this morning, and if people are allowed to go on television and say what they think in the future, which question will also remain unanswered this morning,” he continued, adding the following lines: Dictatorship under Trump.

Co-host Joe Scarborough chimed in to add to Beschloss’ Orwellian insight.

“It’s not that historians can’t write these books; billionaires and the companies that own the publishing houses can refuse to print these books,” he said.

“Absolutely,” said the guest. “We saw this in the L.A. Times, we saw this in The Washington Post,” Scarborough continued.

Both the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post refused to confirm a presidential candidate this year at the behest of the owners. USA Today also declined to endorse Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris this year.

Scarborough noted how powerful leaders around the world are already preparing and “prostrate themselves as a precaution against someone they fear will be an authoritarian leader.” She then defrauded Post owner Jeff Bezos, accusing him of forcing his newspaper not to support Harris because he feared Trump’s wrath.

Beschloss continued by comparing Trump to 20th century dictators.

“And that’s what happens when powerful men come to power,” he said. “This happened in Italy in the 1920s and 1930s. It certainly happened in Germany, Hungary, in the 1930s. And Viktor Orbán, of course, is one of Donald Trump’s most notorious heroes. He said we should follow this model.” He said it, and that’s why he said it.

“And that’s what happens when America starts moving towards dictatorship,” Beschloss added.
