Closures and parking restrictions for Vice President Kamala Harris’ election night watch party

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign will hold its election night watch party at Howard University. At work updated List of parking restrictions and street closures that will be in effect.

Traffic Effects

Due to this event and required safety precautions, there will be multiple impacts to vehicle traffic, pedestrians, and public transportation in the Howard University campus area starting at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 4, 2024. Please plan accordingly and expect delays.

Emergency No Parking

From 06:00 on Sunday, November 3, 2024 until 06:00 on Sunday, November 10, 2024, the following streets will be designated as Emergency No Parking zones. These restrictions could end sooner if the United States Secret Service no longer requires security measures before November 10.

Road closures

Starting from 19:00 on Monday, November 4, 2024, the following streets will be closed to all vehicle traffic. The duration of these closures will depend on security requirements established by the United States Secret Service in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department. Drivers and the public should anticipate that streets will remain closed for extended periods of time.

Detours and Closures in Public Transportation

Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess services in the area around the Howard University campus will also be affected. Customers using stations or bus routes in this area should allow additional travel time to account for detours and delays.

Starting from 19:00 on Monday, November 4, 2024, the following Metrobus routes will be changed:

Routes leaving routes: 70, 79

Additional signs are being posted at all bus stops within security boundaries to warn customers of detours and nearby alternatives. Additional unforeseen impacts may be experienced on Metrobus services. Customers on these and surrounding routes should allow additional travel time to account for diversions and delays. As a result of road closures, real-time service information provided by Metro through BusETA and Metro’s Trip Planner may not accurately reflect off-route service.

Metrorail

There is no planned impact on Metrorail service in the area.

Metro Access

Customers are informed that door-to-door service will not be available within safety limits and delays are possible due to road closures in the area. If traveling to/from a location in a restricted area, efforts will be made to provide drop-off service as close as possible. MetroAccess will operate normal service outside the area around the Howard University campus and will notify customers of potential impacts.

Capital Bike Sharing

The following Capital Bikeshare locations will be disabled starting on the evening of November 4:

4th Avenue and College Avenue, Northwest

Georgia Avenue and Fairmont Avenue, Northwest

Additionally, during safety measures, the area around the Howard University campus will be a No Riding Zone for Capital Bikeshare bicycles.
