Fatal hit-and-run investigation outside Monument McDonald’s now ruled a homicide

MONUMENT, Colo. (KKTV) – A fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in the McDonald’s parking lot is being investigated as a homicide.

“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the suspect,” EPSO spokeswoman Cassandra Sebastian said at a news conference about the incident Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported just before noon in front of the restaurant at Baptist Road and Struthers Road.

“The Monument Police Department responded and found a critically injured (female) at the scene,” Sebastian said. “Medical assistance was provided by our law enforcement and first responders; But unfortunately, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Monument police and the sheriff’s office are now looking for a dark-colored Chrysler minivan with light-colored metal trim and horizontal striping on the sides.

“The vehicle was missing a front license plate, had standard silver rims and had significant damage to the front passenger bumper and side,” Sebastian said. “There was likely a white disabled sign hanging from the front rear view mirror and there may also be red paint scratches on the front passenger side of the vehicle.”

The minivan was driven by a man and a woman was sitting in the front passenger seat.

The sheriff’s office said they believe this was an isolated incident and do not believe there is any danger to the public.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call EPSO at 719-390-5555.
