Couple Break Up After Girlfriend Refuses to Eat Leftovers at BBQ Party

Being a good host means taking care of all your guests, right? A Reddit user found herself feeling awkward at a barbecue hosted by her ex’s friends. The 37-year-old actress shared her experience, saying it was the first time she was invited to a pre-drinks/BBQ party by her ‘ex-boyfriend’s friends’. Before she got there, her boyfriend casually said, “Her friend texted and said the host felt bad because they were having a barbecue and there might not be enough food for everyone, so we shouldn’t feel bad if we see food lying around.”

At first, Redditor he thought this was great and “assumed he meant they had already eaten and we would join later.” But when they arrived, things took a turn. It soon became obvious that no one had touched the food! Of the 12 invited guests, only eight were seated for dinner, while the other four were left hanging. She recalls: “When it came time to eat, eight of us sat around a beautifully set table and ate without making eye contact while we stood outside the table and chatted. I thought it was very strange, my ex, right, I guess? It was strange because he was actually starving.” We were dying!”

I don’t even know these people and it was like that,” while her ex went and got food on a plate and said, “Come and eat.” I was very uncomfortable, so I politely said no, thank you, and continued speaking. My ex was so disturbed by my reaction that it ruined the whole night for him and we actually broke up after that (he broke up with me). ).”

She also added: “He had originally said we would only eat together at the street festival, so I felt uncomfortable that he put me in this situation and then he got mad at me for choosing not to eat and snacking on the street?”

Shocked and confused, a Canadian Reddit user wondered: “Is this culturally normal behavior for some people? I live in Canada and would never eat in front of a guest in my home and feed them, but is this? Was this normal behavior for some people?” “Was I being rude or wrong by doing this, or was it making me feel like a rude person for getting angry and refusing the food?”

The post went viral on Reddit with over 13k upvotes and over 1.5k comments.

One comment read: “No, that’s weird. Specially separating guests to only pick up leftovers when doing the ‘initial’ team selection? I don’t know ANYONE who would do that.”

Another added: “I’m with you. I never eat without everyone in my house making a plate and I always make sure there is enough food.”

A third wrote: “Sounds like a complete mess. Why would you invite people to a barbecue if you can’t feed them?”

Another said: “What kind of a culture is there to eat in front of other people??? It’s so weird and rude, I would leave after seeing them sit down to eat in front of you.”
