Meesho sells Lawrence Bishnoi t-shirts, netizens say ‘even Dawood Ibrahim doesn’t have this popularity’

Online shopping platform Meesho is struggling to sell T-shirts and other products bearing the face of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. A user shared the same screenshots on X (formerly Twitter).

The user wrote: “People are literally selling gangster goods on platforms like Meesho and Teeshopper. This is just one example of India’s latest online radicalisation.”

He noted that social media influencers were reportedly making money glorifying gangsters at a time when police and other agencies were trying to prevent young people from participating in gang crimes.

“There are also creators making crazy desi YouTube movies and YouTube songs parodying gangsters. These videos are getting millions of views,” the user said.

In the screenshots shared by the user, white T-shirts with Lawrence Bishnoi’s picture and words such as “Gangster” and “Real Hero” were seen. The t-shirts were available for sale on the online shopping platform for Rs 168.

The post quickly went viral, with netizens condemning Meesho for selling T-shirts and other merchandise featuring the jailed gangster. “Even Dawood Ibrahim didn’t have this level of popularity,” one user commented.

“Imagine Dawood Ibrahim t-shirt being sold on Meesho,” another user said. Another user wrote: “Shame on Meesho and similar sites. Shame on you!”

“This must be stopped, we can’t encourage the younger generation to see this gangster as a hero,” a third user wrote.

“Meesho needs to be removed from the platform,” another said. “And a kid wearing his t-shirt. So wrong,” one user said.

Bishnoi has been investigated under the anti-terrorism law and is accused of more than 70 criminal cases. He has been in prison since 2015. He is also accused of masterminding the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and the recent shooting outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s house.

Mumbai Police is also investigating Lawrence Bishnoi’s role in the murder of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang also allegedly issued death threats to 10-year-old spiritual preacher Abhinav Arora.
