Pinal County prepares for Election Day with voting reminders

PINAL COUNTY, AZ — Officials in Pinal County are asking voters to remember which polling place they should vote at on Election Day if they decide to go in person.

Pinal County uses a precinct-based system where voters are assigned to cast their votes at a specific polling place.

The registrar’s office says the vast majority of its voters understand the process. However, if the voter goes to the wrong area, he will be directed to the right area.

That’s despite a new state rule that will change the way things work in Pinal County. According to Votebeat, an Arizona Supreme Court ruling requires counties to make it possible for voters to cast ballots correctly even if they go to the wrong polling place.

But the judge ruled it was too late to force Pinal County to comply with the rule.

Before the 2018 election, most elections in Arizona were district-based elections. For questions about elections in Pinal County, you can visit www.pinal.com. website.

The Pinal County Recorder’s Office released the following statement:

“The Pinal County Board of Supervisors has elected to conduct the 2024 General Election using a precinct-based model, pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes § 16-411(B)(4). Before the 2018 election, most elections in Arizona were district-based elections, and Pinal County continued this practice. “The 2024 General Election will be no different.”

The Arizona Supreme Court, in response to a lawsuit filed by Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, has ruled that there will be no changes to the way Pinal County conducts its General Election in 2024.

“Due to the historic use of precinct-based voting, the vast majority of Pinal County voters understand this process and know how to vote in their communities. However, the identity of each voter who applies to vote will be verified, and if they are found to have voted, those in the wrong precinct will be advised of where polling places are in the correct precinct.” “They will be given clear instructions on where to go to make sure their vote is counted.”
