Penn State University Police are investigating the Nov. 2 incident. Jason Kelce and PEOPLE can confirm there was an unidentified college football fan at the school.

Penn State confirmed on Monday, Nov. 4, that University Police and Public Safety are investigating the moment the incident occurred. 36-year-old former NFL star smashes phone A scammer looking for Kelce’s brother travis A homophobic slur.

The university did not say whether they were investigating football fan Jason or how the incident occurred.

PEOPLE reached out to representatives for both Jason and ESPN.

Jason, who is on campus for an appearance on ESPN College Play Day During the Penn State-Ohio State game, he can be seen in multiple videos shared on social media entering the stadium with a case of beer in hand, surrounded by fans.

What’s shared in the images that are currently going viral X (formerly Twitter)The football fan approached Jason and asked, “Hey Kelce. How does it feel to have your brother flirt with a f—–?” he seems to ask. Taylor Swiftthe man asked, using the insult to refer to Travis, 35, who has been with Swift, 34, since 2023.

A few seconds later, Jason turned around, snatched the man’s phone from his hand, and slammed it on the ground. The NFL graduate then stood in front of the man and asked, “Who is he now?” he said. other people appeared to intervene.

The owner of the phone, who was wearing a Penn State hoodie at the time of the incident, could be seen walking closely behind Jason and apparently recording Jason before the fight took place.

In the footage shared by another user on X and taken right after the phone was smashed, a Penn State fan can be seen searching for his phone in the crowd. At one point he appears to say to Jason, “Give me my phone, bro.”
