70-year-old woman punched by teenager at rally in Stuart

A 70-year-old woman says a 17-year-old boy punched her in the stomach during a Vice President Kamala Harris and Amendment 4 rally on the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart on Saturday.

“I had my sign in front of me, I was holding it and when I got hit it was so loud I think that’s what startled me,” said Kathleen Tomasko of Stuart. “There was a loud explosion and then I came back.”

Stuart police took the 17-year-old into custody after police said multiple witnesses identified him.

Lt. Brian Bossio said the teen was in a separate argument with a man. Bossio said it was after this argument that the teenager punched Tomasko.

“They were yelling at others and going back and forth,” Tomasko said. “The things they said were crude and rude.”

He said the boy who punched him was one of four men who gathered at the rally to support former President Donald Trump.

Tomasko told WPTV that he has been attending political rallies for years and was shocked that this happened to him.

“I never thought there would be any trouble,” he said. “I’ve never thought of anything like this.”

It was stated that Tomasko was checked by doctors and his condition was good.

The teenager faces a 65-plus-person battery charge.
