ESPN Projecting Where Virginia Tech Will Play After Loss to Syracuse?

For the second week in a row, the Hokies are one win away from earning bowl eligibility. Virginia Tech remains at five wins after taking a 21-3 lead over Syracuse.

Nationally, Virginia Tech is still considered a top-tier bowl team; In Bill Connelly’s SP+ rankings, Virginia Tech is the 27th-best team in the country after being ranked in SP+’s top 25 the previous week.

Some analysts still have the Hokies playing in some high-level bowl games, against some CFP contenders and solid Power Four schools. That’s where ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach predict Virginia Tech will play, as of their latest college football bowl predictions.

A matchup between Virginia Tech and Army in the Go Bowling Military Bowl would be a storybook matchup. The Hokies haven’t beaten Army at West Point since October 1905. This year the Knights of the Black Army are part of the historical performance of the military academies; At one point in the season, both Army and Navy were 6-0 on the season.

It will always be an honor to play in a military academy bowl game, but Army is a worthy opponent. No. 18 Army faces North Texas this week, and Virginia Tech will be watching its potential bowl opponent carefully.

The Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl has a lot of history between the ACC and Big Ten. Not counting Notre Dame’s blown win over Rutgers in 2013, the ACC hasn’t won the Pinstripe Bowl in twelve years.

Virginia Tech’s last appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl came in embarrassing fashion, with the Hokies losing 54-10 to the Maryland Terrapins.

The Wisconsin Badgers have an interesting season in 2024. Wisconsin defeated Western Michigan and South Dakota to start the year. From then on, the Badgers’ season became a rollercoaster. No. 11 Alabama earned a blowout victory at Camp Randall Stadium. Wisconsin suffered a blowout road loss to USC and then defeated Purdue 52-6 at home. After that, Wisconsin had two more big wins against Rutgers and Northwestern. But in their last two games, the Badgers lost by two or more points to Penn State and Iowa.

Wisconsin is a worthy opponent, but Virginia Tech can certainly attack the Badgers’ weaknesses and win this bowl game.
