Femicide case related to North Myrtle Beach restaurant attack postponed again

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The hearing in the deadly shooting at a North Myrtle Beach restaurant has been postponed again.

LaFredia Todd, of Tabor City, faces charges including murder in connection with the July 2022 shooting of 26-year-old Quintin Johnson at Nacho Hippo in North Myrtle Beach.

Todd’s trial was due to start on Monday but was postponed for a second time.

The reason this was brought up in the courtroom was because of a medical issue with Todd’s previous lead attorney and things the defense said they didn’t have regarding discovery.

Todd’s new lead defense attorney has until Dec. 6 to complete discovery, and the trial is expected to begin in early January of next year.

In addition, 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson filed a voluntary manslaughter plea against LaFredia Todd on Monday afternoon, but it was dismissed as Todd wanted to go to trial.

If convicted of murder, Todd faces a minimum sentence of 30 years to life in prison.

PREVIOUS DELAY

This is not the first time the trial has been postponed.

The trial was also postponed in July, despite Johnson’s family traveling for the hearing.

A day after the hearing was postponed at the request of defense lawyers, Johnson’s family made a statement, calling the postponement “a slap in the face.”

PREVIOUS NEWS:

A spokesman for the 15th District Attorney’s Office said at the time that the state was ready for trial.
