Get a free ride to your polling place on Tuesday

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cuyahoga and Lake County residents will be able to drive to polling places for free on Election Day.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) announced that all customers can ride free without fares or tickets anywhere in Cuyahoga County from 3 a.m. on Nov. 5 to 3 a.m. on Nov. 6.

The free tickets were paid for by a $105,000 grant from the Cleveland Foundation.

“We are delighted with the Cleveland Foundation’s generous grant award to provide a ‘free’ Election Day on November 5 for the citizens of Greater Cleveland,” said GCRTA general manager and CEO India L. Birdsong Terry. “With this financial support, GCRTA can do our part to ensure residents have access to safe and reliable transportation on Election Day; we hope this initiative will help increase historic voter turnout, one constituent at a time.”

In Lake County, residents can use Local Routes 1-9 or schedule a toll-free door-to-door call to their polling place.

“Transportation should never prevent anyone from exercising their right to vote,” said Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “We are committed to ensuring our people have the necessary access to participate in the elections on November 5.”

To schedule a Dial-a-Ride reservation, call Laketran Customer Service today at 440-354-6100.

Polling places in Ohio are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on November 5.

There will be no in-person voting at the Electoral College on Election Day.
