Man trapped under tractor in Woodstock stream is in serious condition: authorities

A man was hospitalized after being trapped under a tractor in a creek for more than half an hour after a bridge collapsed in unincorporated Woodstock on Sunday. (Woodstock Fire/Rescue District)

A person who was stuck under a tractor in the stream as a result of the collapse of the bridge was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. woodstock Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred in the 3200 block of N. Route 47 around 3 p.m.

According to the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, crews were initially responding to water rescues but were soon notified that a man was trapped under a tractor when the bridge on the property collapsed.

The trapped man was at the back of the property, partially submerged in the creek but conscious. He was trapped for more than 30 minutes before he was found, authorities said.

Firefighters lifted the tractor to save the man and transferred him to the ambulance.

He was then taken to the landing zone at Northwood Middle School and then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said.

The man suffered serious injuries from collapse and entrapment, as well as severe hypothermia from exposure to water.

A fluid leak from the tractor during the rescue intervention enabled HAZMAT teams to intervene at the scene. Additionally, absorbent materials were placed in the stream to prevent liquids from dispersing in the water.

While the tractor was removed from the creek at 18:00, emergency teams left the scene.
