Driving downtown on one of Indianapolis’ busiest weekends in decades may feel like you’re in a new hell, but it’s not that bad, Ray Albee said.

Albee may have as much authority as anyone to talk about urban traffic; The 77-year-old part-time limousine driver snakes his way through congestion in the Mile Square on the final two days of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. As he waits in his sleek black limousine Sunday outside Conner’s Kitchen and Bar to pick up his next batch of Swifties, Albee shows no signs of stress, although his fellow drivers don’t always share his calm demeanor.

“They’re not polite,” Albee said. “Politeness is dead. “He died years ago.”

Still, Albee is happy to be among the crowd buzzing around Lucas Oil Stadium. The clientele ranged from four parents of 12 young children to a group of rowdy college-aged women wearing sequined dresses and cowboy boots. Albee isn’t much of a Swiftie, but from his perspective, there are worse concerts than wandering around among happy concertgoers.

“Oh, I think they’re amazing,” Albee said. “It’s too bad the place isn’t three times bigger so more people can go.”

Meredith, who last saw Swift performing in Cincinnati in the summer of 2023, got her start in Swift’s music as a teenager with the pop star’s 2008 album “Fearless.” While dealing with her recent divorce, Meredith has recently found solace in Swift’s more melancholic, introspective ways.

“I will pay for the ticket,” he said. “I just need to find one.”
