Tellico Plains High School senior, cross country star dies in car crash

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tellico Plains community is mourning the loss of a high school student and star athlete.

Tellico Plains High School track standout Darrah Wiseman died in a car crash on I-75 in Loudon County on Saturday, Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones confirmed to WVLT News.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol could not confirm whether the fatal crash occurred at mile marker 80 on I-75. WVLT News reported on Saturday. Additional information will be released when THP publishes its preliminary report.

Monroe County Mayor Mitch Ingram said in a statement that Wiseman is a senior who made the entire county proud.

It is with sadness that I share the news that a precious young life has been lost. Darrah Wiseman was a senior at Tellico Plains High School, but she made the entire district proud. Our hearts are broken, words are inadequate in the face of such deep pain.

As we grieve together, let us come together to pray for his family, friends, classmates, and all those whose lives Darrah forever touched. May God give his family peace, strength and comfort in these difficult days. We are here for each other, standing together with love and support.

Wiseman was a star cross country runner at TPHS who qualified for the state championships last week. He was a six-time state champion in events dating back to 2022.

WVLT News reached out to Monroe County Schools to see if grief counselors would be at Tellico Plains High School on Monday.
