Game Warden William ‘Tex’ Bailey dies after medical emergency

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A new addition to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources game animal died early Friday afternoon from an apparent medical emergency during training, officials said.

William “Tex” Bailey suffered a medical emergency during a training exercise in Barren County, Kentucky, according to the department.

Bailey, from Huntsville, was a standout offensive line football player at Madison Academy and also played at Eastern Kentucky.

Authorities said he later made his home in Richmond, Kentucky, where he earned his bachelor’s degree from EKU.

On Sunday, Bailey’s body was transported from Louisville, Kentucky, to his hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

The procession left OD White & Sons Funeral Home with the assistance of multiple agencies to assemble at Interstate 65. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife game wardens, with assistance from Kentucky State Police, began trekking south into Alabama.

Tennessee Wildlife Officers and Alabama Fish and Game officers will assist with the parade across state lines, officials said.

The parade is expected to end at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville.
