But what followed for the former was a very strange injury, rarely seen before in combat sports.

The two engaged in a bloody war of attrition in the opening two rounds, with Redfearn landing several leaping blows to the face throughout.

As the fight continued, a large, nasty-looking gash appeared above his right eye, which his corner attempted to treat.

But incredibly, his eye swelled completely closed, disfiguring the right side of his face.

To make matters worse, he suffered a horrific-looking broken nose, which was badly bent towards his damaged eye.

It caused his face to look completely disfigured and distorted; many described him as ‘submitting’ to damaging blows.

He went to his corner and eventually a doctor was called, who took a look at the serious damage and stopped the contest.

Fans reacted to the gruesome injuries that halted the match with seconds remaining in the second period, with one writing: “Holy shit.”

Another reacted: “Damn, this is really bad.”

One fan agreed: “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this.”
