Parents of slain son ask Calgary truck thief to return urn containing his ashes

Saddened by the kidnapping and murder of their son, a Saskatchewan family is seeking the return of their son’s remains, which were stolen along with their truck from a residence in Calgary.

Shannon Garrioch was in Calgary on October 29, visiting the father of her late son Allan, who was murdered in early 2020. Garrioch said he is in the process of moving to Calgary.

He woke up on October 30 to find that his truck carrying Allan’s ashes was gone.

“The ashes are in a cream-colored urn with silver trim,” he said in an email to CTV News. “Any contact is welcomed.”

Garrioch said he contacted police, who found some contents in the dumpster in his truck, but not the urn containing his son’s ashes.

“We just want our son’s body back,” he said.

On February 25, 2020, Allan Douglas Garrioch, who lives in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, was reported missing after losing contact with his family.

The three men were eventually convicted of multiple charges, including murder, forcible confinement, breaking and entering, and assault with a weapon.

Garrioch’s remains were discovered in the Rural Municipality of Bayne, Sask.

Allan’s remains were stolen along with this vehicle in Calgary on October 30.

CTV News has reached out to Calgary police for additional details.
