Indiana man pleads guilty to assaulting law enforcement during the Jan. 6 breach of the capitol

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Troy Allen Koen, 54, of Brownsburg, Indiana, pleaded guilty Friday to assaulting law enforcement officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol Breach.

Koen admitted to aggressively breaching barricades and using a flagpole to shatter a glass door and attacking officers as he joined other rioters in a violent attempt to disrupt Congress’ certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

According to court documents, Koen led rioters in removing police barriers on the West Front of the Capitol and entered the Lower West Terrace Tunnel armed with a flagpole bearing “Trump 2020” and Confederate flags.

There, Koen drove the flagpole through the glass doors and police officers in an attempt to breach the building.

Koen was arrested by the FBI in Indianapolis on November 9, 2023. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 26, 2025, before Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg.
