Television writers usually save big character deaths for the middle episodes of their shows — perhaps a heartbreaking season finale — but sometimes a TV character meets his producer in Episode 1.

showtime comedy Dead Like MeFor example, it ended 20 years ago, on Halloween 2004, but its lead character was killed long ago in a freak accident that occurred in the pilot.
