How did New Zealand react to their historic Test series win in India?

New Zealand defeated India 3-0 away in the Test series. This was the first time in India’s cricket history that they were whitewashed in a 3-match series at home. New Zealand players were delighted with their victory and began celebrating after the last wicket fell at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday 3 November.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon described it as their biggest away series win and congratulated Tom Latham’s team for their incredible spirit. The Kiwis had arrived on Indian shores after losing their 2-match series against Sri Lanka, but they turned things around by playing some clinical cricket.

IND and NZ, 3rd Test: Match Report | Full Scorecard

New Zealand were so dominant in the series that it raised questions about the temperament of India’s senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play Test cricket. The Indians had a scare from pace in Bengaluru and then saw demons in the bowling of Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel in the last two Test matches of the series.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham stated that the players stuck to their game plan and kept the tempo high throughout the series. In that context, here’s how New Zealand players reacted to their stunning away series win.

Tom Latham – New Zealand Captain

So ecstatic. When we look at the start of the series we see that they are in this position now, the boys have done a great job in the last three Test matches. We talked about it and he was trying to back it up after every Test match. We are quite happy to have finally achieved this in Mumbai on a completely different surface, one that challenges us with bat and ball. Being able to adapt to every situation, I wouldn’t say it’s just one way of doing things. The Mariners did a great job in Bangalore. “Different guys stepped up at different times and that’s the beauty of team sport,” Tom Latham told the broadcaster after the match in Mumbai.

“When you look at the scores of the match, although there were no big runs, the contribution was sought. Last week it was Mitch, this week it was Ajaz. He did a great job, he loves bowling here. We had a very good teamwork in Mumbai and we want to keep it simple here I’ve talked about that over the last couple of weeks, I definitely think we’ve been a little more aggressive with the bat, we’ve tried to be more proactive with the ball, we’ve tried to understand a little bit how India plays, guys have contributed at different times. It was something and I’m really happy to be here in this position,” Latham added.

“Not much has changed, we didn’t play that bad there (in Sri Lanka). We fell down the right side in a few overs, which is important in these conditions. We came here, bowled really well this morning. Going for a score on a tough wicket When we run, it’s always important for the girls to win the World Cup. We could only dream of being in this position when we came here three weeks ago,” concluded the New Zealand captain.

Will Young – Actor of the Series

“It’s a huge thing. First of all, if you think about the team coming here, the beginning of the series, one game is huge. Going again and again, being proud of the boys and the efforts I made. Sometimes I had to trust my defence, sometimes I had to be clear about where I wanted to score and make it possible.” I need to do it for as long as I can. I know where I want to score and I can trust my defense, which makes my mind very clear. We talk about the memories we have made over the last few weeks, the locker room and the hotel room. We go back and enjoy each other’s company. so we play the game, we do it for the guy next to us and it feels great,” Will Young said.

Ajaz Patel – POTM – Mumbai Test

“Spin bowling is about rhythm. When you’re in a rhythm like that, you’ve got to make the most of it. When conditions arise, you’ve got to grab it by the horns and do something about it. (Spell after lunch on day two) I felt safe to fair in the morning session too , but the pitch didn’t offer me much in terms of spin, the period after lunch was a lot more spin and helped me use my skills, I just tried to keep it simple, keep the shape of the ball in the air and stay ahead of the batsmen (in his tackle against Pant). He batted superbly in the series and put us under pressure. I knew if I bowled well to him, he would come out and get me out, so I had to think outside the box and come up with a different plan against him (he is from the Mumbai suburb of Jogeshwari). on whether he will go to or not),” said the star spinner, who has 25 wickets from two Test matches at the Wankhede Stadium.
