Suspect in deadly Vancouver Mall shooting arrested by Vancouver police

The suspect in Thursday night’s deadly shooting at the Vancouver Mall has been arrested, the Vancouver Police Department said Saturday night.

Travis L. Ward, 22, of Vancouver surrendered to police after Vancouver detectives, with the assistance of SWAT, arrived at Ward’s home on Saturday, according to a statement from the force.

Ward was booked into the Clark County Jail facing one count of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault, police said.

One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting attack in the food court on the second floor of the shopping mall on Halloween night.

Two men injured in the shooting were treated at an area hospital and released on Friday.

Vancouver police said some of the tips that helped identify Ward and his whereabouts came through social media.

Police released photos of two women who were at the Vancouver Mall at the time of the attack.

Through social media tips, detectives were able to identify and contact the women who cooperated with detectives in the investigation. Neither are considered suspects or persons of interest in the case, police said.

The attack took place around 7:30 p.m. while a trick-or-treating event was being held at the mall. Due to the conflict, hundreds of customers were forced to take shelter in stores throughout the mall or run to the exits.

The mall reopened Friday afternoon.

The Vancouver Police Department Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation.
