Zach Edey’s Statement After the Memphis Grizzlies-Philadelphia 76ers Match

Zach Edey had one of the best performances of his young NBA career against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. This was a game in which the Grizzlies led wire-to-wire and dismantled the narrowly outnumbered 76ers, 124-107.

Edey played with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block with 57% shooting in just 22 minutes. Among those 10 rebounds, there were also five offensive rebounds; This was something Edey specifically considered doing against the 76ers.

“We knew coming in that they were an offensive rebounding team, they’re second in the league,” Edey said. “So that’s a big part of their offense, they score around 20 points right after the second chance. We came in with that mentality, we have to limit it.”

In six games this season, Edey averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on 58% shooting from the field. Edey hasn’t yet fully established the Rookie of the Year award everyone is hoping for, but he knows it will take time.

“I’m just trying to improve game by game, getting better every game,” Edey said. “That’s how I did it in college. When I was a freshman, no one really knew me, but by the time I got to senior year. So I just try to take it that way, game by game.”

After a slow start, the Memphis Grizzlies have a 4-3 record with a two-game winning streak.
