Mumbai: Mumbai police arrested a 24-year-old woman for allegedly making death threats against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an official said on Sunday. The threatening message asked Adityanath to resign or face consequences ‘like Baba Siddique’.

The woman, identified as Fatima Khan, who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, was living with her family members in Ulhasnagar area of neighboring Thane district of Maharashtra. The official said his father was in the lumber business.

Police said the woman was qualified but mentally unstable. The official said that on Saturday, the Mumbai traffic police received a message from an unknown number on their WhatsApp number, threatening that Adityanath would be killed like NCP leader Baba Siddique if he did not resign from the CM’s post within 10 days.

He said that during investigation, police found that Khan had sent the message. The Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) tracked down the woman and arrested her in a joint operation with Ulhasnagar police, the official said. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing, the official added.

According to officials, police have been alerted as Adityanath is likely to come to Maharashtra to campaign for the November 20 state assembly elections. Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai’s Bandra area on October 12.
