Erin Blanchfield Outlasts Former Champion Rose Namajunas at UFC Edmonton

In the co-main event of UFC Edmonton, top women’s flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield faced the biggest test of her career against former flyweight queen Rose Namajunas.

The UFC’s return to Rogers Place in Edmonton began with a marquee men’s flyweight bout between two-time champion Moreno and Amir Albazi, but the co-main event was just as important for the women’s flyweight title fight.

UFC Edmonton Live Results and Highlights – Moreno vs. Albazi

Blanchfield entered the night coming off the first loss of her UFC career to Manon Fiorot in March, while Namajunas was continuing her momentum of back-to-back wins after losing to Fiorot in her lightweight debut last year.

The two women, booked to meet in a rare five-round co-main event, spent the entire first round trading strikes to the feet and continued that into the second before Blanchfield initiated a clinch that Namajunas briefly reversed.

“Cold Blooded” was significantly more aggressive to start the third frame and eventually managed to escape another cage clinch on his own, and after maintaining the top spot for the majority of that round, Blanchfield once again landed big strikes with Namajunas in the fourth round. but could not bring things to the mat.

Things got off to a hot start in the final round with Blanchfield immediately putting pressure on the former champion, and another early takedown allowed the 25-year-old to briefly establish a crucifix mount and spend a significant amount of time in top position before Namajunas went to work. He stood up at the last minute.

Blanchfield earned a unanimous decision from all three judges after meeting to win the final three rounds and called for a fight with “Cold Blooded” former UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Alexa Grasso in her post-fight interview.
