Naivalurua says life skills education in schools is vital – FBC News

MP Ioane Naivalurua is highlighting the critical need for life skills education in schools to equip young people with the tools to resist drugs.

During the speaker’s discussion on drugs, the speaker emphasized that prevention should start early and continue consistently throughout students’ development.

This, he added, would effectively address drug use, which often begins in adolescence.

“A review of the most effective programs shows that they are based on life skills training that targets not only drug abuse but also equipping the child with broader life skills and social resilience. We teach children how to say no to drugs, why to say no to drugs, not just once, but many times.”

Naivalurua notes that an ongoing, structured approach to prevention in schools will help strengthen young people’s ability to make informed, healthy decisions.
