Man accused of planting explosives in casino

TAMPA, FL (WWSB/Gray News) – Authorities arrested a man accused of planting explosives at a casino, prompting evacuations.

The Seminole Hard Rock Casino Tampa was evacuated twice within 12 hours on Sept. 30 after two explosive devices were found in the men’s restroom.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials arrested 46-year-old Bryan Robert Eckley in connection with the incident.

Authorities say Eckley hid two radio-controlled explosive devices in two restrooms at a local casino. Employees found the devices without causing damage.

After interviews, surveillance and analytical work, investigators identified Eckley as their suspect.

Days before the explosive devices were planted, Eckley was arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated aggravated assault case. Forensic analysts linked the evidence in this case to the devices.

Eckley was arrested on October 30 and booked into Hillsborough County Jail. The case will be handled by the 13th Judicial Chamber of the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation is still active. Eckley is currently being held in the Hillsborough County Jail.
