LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Missing fire marshal captain Tony Bortner was found dead in the Susquehanna River on the afternoon of Nov. 1, according to a press release from the Lancaster County Coroner.

On Nov. 1, at approximately 2:54 p.m., the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the Martic County area of ​​the Susquehanna River, according to the release. The statement states that when the coroner arrived at the scene, he encountered a person in shallow water off Peavine Island. The medical examiner identified the victim at the scene as a deceased male, and the body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Science Center for further investigation, according to the statement.

The statement stated that, as a result of the investigation, the deceased male was identified as 51-year-old Tony Bortner from Windsor, Pa. Bortner was the fire chief of Laurel Fire Company, where he was first reported missing on October 17. An autopsy was planned.

According to the statement, there were no suspicious circumstances at the scene, and the cause of death has not yet been determined.
