Update, 9.41am: Multiple injuries have been reported following a serious bus crash at Broadlands between Rotorua and Taupō.

“Ten people are reported to have been injured in a crash in Broadlands, Rotorua this morning,” a police spokesman said.

“Shortly before 7.30am there was a single bus traveling at the intersection of Broadlands Road and Allen Road.”

Three people were seriously injured, two people were moderately injured and five people were slightly injured, and all of them were taken to hospital by helicopter.

The road is closed and is expected to remain so for some time.

Diversions are in full swing on Ohaaki Road and Vaile Road.

Update, 09.20: Emergency services are responding to the scene of a serious bus crash at Broadlands, between Rotorua and Taupō.

“Emergency services are attending to a serious crash reported shortly before 7.30am in Broadlands,” a police spokesman said.

“It is thought that serious injuries may occur”

A Hato Hone spokesman said four ambulances, a helicopter and an emergency response unit were at the scene and paramedics were checking about 30 people on the bus.

He said three people were in serious condition, two people were moderately injured, and the rest were slightly injured or unharmed.

The second helicopter is also on the way.

Diversions are currently in place on Ohaaki Road and Vaile Road, off Broadlands Road, and are expected to remain so for some time.

Previously, 8.05am: Emergency services are responding to the scene of a serious crash south of Rotorua.

A police spokesman said: “Emergency services were attending a serious crash reported shortly before 7.30am in Broadlands.” he said.

“It is thought that serious injuries may occur.”

Diversions are currently in place on Ohaaki Road and Vaile Road, off Broadlands Road, and are expected to remain so for some time.
