Gophers tops Penn State in men’s hockey Big Ten opener

The Gophers men’s hockey team got off to a winning start to the 2024-25 Big Ten season with a 3-1 win over Penn State at home on Friday night.

The Nittany Lions struck first with a single goal in the first period. Star junior forward Jimmy Snuggerud led the Gophers back with two goals to bring his season total to three.

After allowing an early goal, sophomore goaltender Nathan Airey punted his head. Penn State had 22 shots on goal to Minnesota’s 34. Jimmy Clark was the only other Gophers player to find goal.

The Gophers are currently 6-1 on the season and will face Penn State again on Saturday night at 7pm CT. The game will air on FOX9+ and BTN+ as Minnesota looks for its sixth straight victory.
