Democrats, including Walz, to make weekend raid in North Carolina

Early voting in North Carolina reaches record levels in 2024.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections said Friday that turnout for in-person early voting broke the record set four years ago. During the early voting period, which started on October 17 and will last until 15.00 on Saturday, more than 3 million 798 thousand voters voted in person as of 14.00 on Friday.

More than 3,629,000 votes were cast in early voting in 2020.

Total participation in the 2024 general elections now exceeds 4 million voters. Votes cast by 2 p.m. (4,009,149) represent the turnout of more than half (51.2%) of registered voters in North Carolina.

“Early voting sites are expected to be very busy today and tomorrow, which is really good news for North Carolina,” said Karen Brinson Bell, Executive Director of the NC State Board of Elections. “For eligible North Carolinians who have not yet voted, you still have time to make your voices heard.”

In 2020, 65% of NC voters used the early voting period to vote.

Republicans have historically turned out in smaller numbers than Democrats in early voting (they typically vote in larger numbers on Election Day), but this year’s turnout was significantly higher.
