Iconic Ogden grain silos destroyed in early morning explosions

OGDEN, Utah – It took just a few minutes Saturday morning to demolish two long-standing iconic structures on Ogden land.

Separate explosions destroyed grain silos of the Farmers’ Grain Cooperative Both were demolished to make way for new developments in the city.

The eruption began just before 8 a.m. when police blocked nearby roads. About an hour after the first elevator collapsed, the second one also collapsed.

Demolition of two towers on land owned by the Utah Central Railroad began in mid-February.

Grain silos were a part of Ogden’s history that spoke more to its agricultural past.
