Father and son face attempted murder charges after Santa Maria shooting

A father and son are facing charges following a shooting in Santa Maria on Friday that police say left two people injured and one of them fighting for his life.

Santa Maria police said officers responded to reports of gunshots heard at a fast food restaurant in the 400 block of Betteravia Road around 12:46 p.m.

Officers said they learned there had been an argument before the two teenagers were shot. According to police, a 17-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and an 18-year-old man was in critical condition.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police said the vehicle believed to have been used during the attack was found abandoned in Santa Maria and seized as evidence.

Detectives said they identified 41-year-old Casey Jose Pacheco Hernandez of Santa Maria and his son, 19-year-old Casey Hernandez Junior of Oceano, as the suspects.
