Four girls suffered serious burns in fast food store toilet

Four girls suffered serious burns in the bathroom of a fast food restaurant in Brighton.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to reports of a fire at the Wendy’s restaurant at 8.28pm on Thursday, October 31.

Four 12-year-old girls were found to have suffered “life-changing” injuries.

Sussex Police said the children were taken to hospital and were in a serious but stable condition.

Sussex Police and the fire service said they were still investigating the cause of this incident but could confirm fireworks were not involved.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue service said the incident was accidental and the public was not at risk.

Three fire trucks, an aircraft and specialist officers attended.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “CCTV footage has been reviewed as part of the investigation and we can confirm the cause was accidental and fireworks were not involved.”

The force said they would not be releasing any further information at this time as they were “sensitive to any injuries to those involved”.

A spokesperson for Wendy’s said: “Our thoughts are with those recovering from this incident at our Brighton restaurant.

“The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority. “We continue to work with local law enforcement on the investigation.”
