BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – VFW Message 4692 A hotel in Bryan may be forced by the state to close its doors just two months after reopening following renovations.

In a letter obtained by the local VFW post on Tuesday, the state outlined the details of the suspension. The letter describes three rule violations: failure to submit quarterly reports, failure to maintain a relief fund, and failure to allow post members in good standing to vote on how to spend the funds.

The task cannot currently hold meetings or spend money. The canteen and lounge will remain open.

The state VFW office appointed a committee to oversee the mission and make sure those violations were addressed, according to the letter.

The suspension can last up to 90 days, after which the final report will decide whether to cancel the mission’s contract.

KBTX spoke with Post 4692 Commander Leo Rivera in July, and he said the post has made many changes and upgrades.

“We’re trying to make sure we’re meeting the needs of the public by keeping our facilities going and then we could be here for another 75 years because this is one of the oldest posts in the VFW in Texas,” said Cmdr. . said Rivera.

The post revealed its revamped canteen in September, following its suspension by the government agency.

The state’s VFW commander called for a meeting scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 21. In his letter to the Bryan post he said: “I once again urge you to attend this meeting if you wish to save your post. ”

This VFW center hosts a number of community events while also serving Veterans.

Rivera said in July that serving the community is at the heart of what they do: “As VFW, we want to make sure we serve our community because as Veterans, we once served a community abroad.”
