Junior doctors unhappy with CBI investigation, planning major protests, rg kar hospital, Kolkata doctor rape murder, CBI investigation, doctors’ protest, protest plans, TMC

Kolkata: Nearly three months after the tragic rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, junior doctors have expressed disappointment with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the slow progress of the investigation. They announced new protest plans to voice their concerns.

The West Bengal Young Doctors Forum criticized the CBI for filing a chargesheet in the case in which only one suspect was named, who was arrested by the police before the CBI took over the investigation following the Calcutta High Court order.

Forum spokesperson Debashis Halder said at the press conference held at RG Kar Hospital, “We will hold a rally with members of non-governmental organizations from College Square to Esplanade in Kolkata on November 9. There will be similar rallies in different parts of West Bengal.” he said. .

A mass rally is planned to demand justice for the murdered doctor on Rani Rashmoni Boulevard in the Esplanade area on November 9. “We also call for lighting of lamps in every district of Bengal on November 4,” Halder said.

Junior doctors feel that the charge sheet does not fully address the involvement of “other perpetrators” in the crime because it only identifies one person as directly responsible. “Has the role of other arrested persons, including former (RG Kar hospital) director Sandip Ghosh, been fully investigated?” Halder asked. Accused Ghosh was initially arrested for unrelated financial misappropriation at the hospital, but was later linked to the rape and murder case.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with the pace of CBI’s investigation, junior doctor Halder expressed concerns that slow progress may allow the accused to be released on bail. “Why was there such a routine investigation? We want to know what steps the central agency took against senior officials at the hospital and whether the sleuths spoke to senior officials at the health department,” Halder said.

He stated that the doctors had held a rally at the CBI office before Diwali to call for a speedier investigation but felt compelled to escalate their protest given the prevailing circumstances.

The ruling Trinamool Congress party has criticized junior doctors for their renewed agitation. TMC Senior MLA Kalyan Bandyopadhyay said the protests appeared directionless and claimed that the movement was influenced by the CPM. He emphasized that the CBI is still investigating the incident and the case is currently under judicial review.“What’s the point of writing one program after another that annoys the common man?” he asked.
