Dearborn mayor attacks Trump visit for Arab voters: ‘He will never be my president’

Former President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Dearborn before his rally in Warren.

The visit was an attempt by the Biden-Harris administration to win the votes of Arab Americans, who are angered by many in society over its intervention and conduct in Israel’s war in Gaza.

During a stop at restaurant The Great Commoner, he doubled down on comments he made about Republican Liz Cheney, who endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris in the election, and mocked the former congresswoman for her enthusiasm for foreign wars.

“I think Liz Cheney is a disaster, all she wants is to blow people up, she’s a ‘war hawk,'” he said. “And that’s stupid, too. And if you throw him onto the battlefield, he’ll be the first one to get scared.”

But Trump’s visit was not welcomed by everyone, including senior city officials who did not attend the event.

Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, a former Democratic state representative, issued an impassioned statement condemning the appearance of the GOP presidential candidate.

“The architect of the Muslim Ban is making a campaign stop in Dearborn. People in this community know what Trump stands for; we’ve suffered for years. I refused to sit down with him, even though the demands kept coming.”

“Trump will never be my president again.

“To the Dems, your unwillingness to stop funding and enable genocide has created space for Trump to infiltrate our societies. Remember that.

In the August primaries, Arab American absentee voting took a hit, with more than 100,000 votes cast in protest.

At the time, Hammoud celebrated the statement that voters, mostly from the Arab American community, sent to the Biden administration.

Despite Hammoud and other Dearborn leaders, Trump, Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi and Hamtramck Mayor Dr. He garnered some support from Arab leaders with the support of Amer Ghalib.
