Little boy found dead in car in South Sumter Middle School parking lot

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 15-month-old baby was found dead in the parking lot of South Sumter Middle School Friday afternoon, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

In one versionDeputies said that they were called to the school at around 16.18 upon the report of the dead child.

In the statement, the investigation revealed that the child was left unintentionally in a car parked at the school.

“The child was with a family member and was going to be dropped off at day care,” the statement reads. “However, the family member forgot that the child was there and went to school.”

An investigation involving the Medical Examiner’s Office and the State’s Attorney’s Office is ongoing, but no details have been released regarding whether any charges will result from this incident.

“This is a tragic situation and our hearts go out to the child’s family,” the sheriff’s office said.
