GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – Mike Schwartz kicked off his 3rd season as East Carolina Men’s Basketball Coach with a bang this Friday: a live studio interview on WITN.

Schwartz brought in six transfers and three freshmen this season. RJ Felton returns from last season as the team’s leading scorer and should be the focal point of the offense this year as well.

In the grand scheme of things, the Buccaneers need to cut their teeth on the defensive end. In fact, Coach Schwartz looks for these types of players when recruiting.

“When they come to campus, they know defense is what we hang our hat on, and they put both feet in,” he said.

The team went 15-18 last year. They don’t have a winning record since the 2012-13 season. Schwartz’s program this year will not focus on the past.

“We will never give up on something from the past that will prevent us from doing something special in the future, we all have our eyes set on next year,” Schwartz said.

The team will open its season at home against NC Wesleyan on Monday, November 4th.
