Man who attacked Jamel Boyce confessed to murder

A man who died from his injuries more than five years after his victim was stabbed has pleaded guilty to murder at the Old Bailey.

Jamel Boyce was left blind, paralyzed and unable to speak after being attacked by Tyrese Osei-Kofi in Clapham, south London, in October 2016.

Mr Boyce, then 17, suffered a heart attack after being attacked and the lack of oxygen caused major brain damage.

Following objections in the press that his father knew him, Osei-Kofi surrendered to the police six days after the knife attack and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for intentional wounding.

The first hearing heard the pair were friends and had an argument at a fast food restaurant in Clapham High Street.

Mr Boyce was seen by Osei-Kofi pinned to the wall by shoppers while others watched.like a herd surrounding a buffalo“.

Osei-Kofi trapped him by placing his right arm on his victim’s neck before stabbing him and leaving.

Paramedics managed to keep Mr Boyce alive but he was left without oxygen for 14 minutes, leading to serious brain damage. He was transferred to a long-term care facility.

After he died from his injuries in 2022, the case was reopened and Osei-Kofi was charged with murder.

The sentence was postponed due to the reports.
